The amount of reference material found in the philatelic
literature is staggering to say the least. We are including in this section
the reference materials that we have found essential for an understanding of the postage stamps of the United States. The philatelic
writer of today owes an enormous debt to these authors. As the great scientist Sir
Isaac Newton put
it: "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."
